Join Breakthrough Saint Paul and other community members committed to closing the achievement gap for a discussion with Teach For America President, Matt Kramer.  Matt will share a brief historical perspective on the nation's movement toward educational equity and provide an overview of the work that is being done today toward that end.  All individuals and groups from all professional sectors are invited to ask questions and share their perspectives.

About Matt Kramer:

Matt came to Teach For America from McKinsey & Company, a management consulting firm, where he was a partner and leader in the North American Financial Institutions practice and K-12 education practice.  His education clients included the New York City Department of Education, the New Teacher Project, and Teach For America.  His first introduction to Teach For America came in 1999, while his wife, Katie, served as a corps member and taught middle school social studies in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City.  While she taught, Matt helped Teach For America develop its recruitment strategy and strengthen its selection model in preparation for the launch of its first growth plan.  When Katie emerged from her Teach For America experience no longer interested in becoming a history professor and instead focused on the long-term fight for educational equity, Matt realized that Teach For America was on to something.  In 2005, he joined Teach For America full-time as the Chief Program Officer and assumed his current role in 2007.  Matt holds a B.A. in economics from Harvard University.  He and Katie and their two daughters live in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
